Studying at IPPI

Introduction
The academic activities at IPPI began in 1989 and during these years more than 828 M.Sc. students have been graduated from IPPI. In 1997 the first group of PhD students started their research programs and a number of PhD students have been graduated from IPPI.
The duration of MSc Courses at IPPI is two years and for PhD degrees, it is four years. For both MSc and PhD degrees, students attend formal lectures followed by research projects.
In addition to these higher degrees, IPPI also offers short courses in different areas of polymer science and technology. IPPI is well-equipped for the postgraduate research works offering a wide range of modern facilities for research in polymer science and technology.
The MSc degrees are awarded on the results of examinations consisting of both written and the submission of a dissertation.

MSc in Polymer Engineering

A 24-month taught MSc course is presented for graduated polymer engineers, chemical engineers, chemists, mechanical engineers, physicists or a related subject. The course includes tuition in basic aspects of polymeric materials and processes and an extended research project.

Some of the mandatory courses are “Advanced Engineering Mathematics”, “Polymer Processing”, “Engineering Properties of Polymers”, “Reaction Engineering” and “Physical Chemistry of Polymers”.

Some of optional courses but not limited to are “Reinforced Plastics”, “Design and Production of Rubber Products”, “Materials Selection and Products Design”, “Polymer Characterization and Analysis” and “Bio-Polymers”.

In MSc thesis, the main objective is to provide training in techniques that are essential for research and development work and problem solving in industry. The experimental work is carried out in the well-equipped laboratories of IPPI.

PhD in Polymer Engineering

A 48-month taught PhD course is presented for graduate polymer scientists, chemists, chemical engineers or a related subject. The course includes tuition in basic aspects of polymer science and an extended research project.

Curriculum requirements is the same as MSc in Polymer Engineering.

Some of the mandatory courses are “Chemistry and Synthesis of Polymers”, “Physical Chemistry of Polymers”, “Polymer Characterization and Analysis”.

Some of the optional courses but not limited to are “Chemistry and Synthesis of Polymers “, “Adhesion”, “Natural Polymers” and “Rheology of polymers”.

The PhD thesis is undertaken individually. The experimental work is carried out in the well-equipped laboratories of IPPI. The main objective is to provide training in techniques that are essential for research and development work and problem solving in industry.
